How to write a membrane enquiry

A one-line request for “best price” does not tell a factory which sheet to price. These are the items that make a quote possible.

1. Product: SBS/APP, underlayment, self-adhesive, bathroom membrane, TPO, PVC, asphalt shingles or polyurethane coating.
2. Application: roof, basement or below grade, wet room, or underlayment under shingles.
3. Country the goods are for. Standards differ. Naming the country is more useful than naming a port only.
4. Specification you already have: thickness, reinforcement, surface (slate or sand on bitumen sheets), roll width and length.
5. Quantity, and whether this is a trial order or a repeating distributor order.
6. Whether you need a root-resistant grade. Say so only if the specification requires it.

If you do not have a thickness, say so. Do not copy a number from another supplier’s catalogue into the message and treat it as ours.
